Jackson's Socktober Sock Drive
Collecting & Donating New Socks For Those In Need
Seven years ago, (then eight-year-old) now fifteen-year-old Jackson Bogardus was inspired by the local charity, The Undies Project (a charity that provides underwear to our low-income neighbors) and decided to start a local sock drive, “SOCKTOBER”, for the month of October. Jackson feels this is especially important as we approach the colder months. He also learned that socks are one of the items most needed in homeless shelters so he is collecting NEW socks annually for both adults and children and donating them to Inspirica in Stamford and other local charities. 94 million people in the United States live in or near poverty. That’s almost 1 out of every 3. Inspirica is more than just a homeless shelter. Inspirica seeks to break the cycle of homelessness by providing the programs and services that help their clients achieve – and maintain – permanent housing and stability in their lives. To date, Jackson has collected and donated over 20,000 pairs of new socks for those in need!
All tax-deductible monetary donations will go to the Henrik Lundqvist Foundation so we can purchase additional socks for my drive.
Please call (203) 539 - 2665 if you have any questions or would like to learn more about Jackson’s SOCKTOBER Sock Drive.
Thank you & Happy Socktober!
Jackson Bogardus
Currently in its tenth year, the HLFYA program empowers young men & women who want to be changemakers in their communities and beyond.
The Henrik Lundqvist Foundation was founded in 2014 by New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and his wife Therese to make a difference in the lives of children and their families throughout the world, in the areas of health and education. The Young Ambassadors program was developed because HLF believes in the incredible power of young people to make a difference in the world and we want to give you a platform to do just that!
The HLF Young Ambassadors program is open to young men and women ages 13-18 who reside in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut. HLFYAs will be expected to fulfill the following program requirements:
1. Complete a minimum of fifteen (15) hours of community service (signed off on by a supervisor, teacher, coach, parent or guardian);
2. Complete one (1) independent service project in support of HLF’s mission;
3. Attend at least one (1) HLF-hosted event and/or service project (these projects will be hosted in New York City, at various locations and times throughout the year);
4. Make a short presentation to his/her class, team or other community group about HLF’s mission and his/her work as an HLFYA. All HLFYAs also commit to conducting themselves with integrity and make a promise to embody HLF’s ideals of hard work, determination, service and kindness to others.
